Butler Crossing is a regional shopping center consisting of over 240,000 square feet on 38 acres in Butler, Pennsylvania. The center includes a Walmart Supercenter and Target as key tenants. The building design achieved USGBC’s LEED-Silver Certification, one of the first LEED Certified retail centers in Pennsylvania. Some of the building’s sustainable features include: low light pollution fixtures; a ‘cool’ roof; water-efficient restroom fixtures; permanent recycling station;, low VOC paints, sealants and adhesives; certified re-use wood; and high recycled content materials/ products that were obtained regionally.

The design was also driven by the Owner’s goals of: complementing the design to the adjacent Butler Commons shopping center; cost-efficient construction; and building during the winter months. A structural steel perimeter frame was chosen to allow for speedy erection during the cold weather. The exterior skin was made of metal stud framing with a mixture of brick-look concrete masonry units and EIFS on the visible elevations with a metal stud / metal wall panel system at the rear. Metal accent awnings and the color of the masonry tied into the existing Butler Commons complex.
